Today we face two major challenges in the modern workplace.
Intergenerational differences cause the first set of challenges. Due to the impact of technology Millennials & Genz have different behaviours and values to their seniors, which can lead to difficulties in communication. Interpersonal skills are notoriously hard to teach, and they are needed more than ever in today’s diverse and multigenerational work environments.
The second challenge is the result of technological disruptions, and ever-increasing automation, which will require your workforce to be more flexible and agile within their roles. Employees will need to prepare to move up to higher order tasks, as artificial intelligence will replace some of their existing work.
At Smart Cookie Media, we have done extensive research on the impact of technology on the digital-native generation, (AKA Millennials and Gen Z). We have delved deep into this generation’s social and economic behaviours, both in the workplace and as consumers. Our founder, Somi Arian, is also writing a book about the impact of technological disruptions on “the future of work”. Watch our documentary, “The Millennial Disruption”, featuring industry leaders from The Economist, Marie Claire, Bentley, Jaguar Land Rover, Steinway, Siemens and Gary Vaynerchuk, to name a few.
We have developed an innovative training series that uses fictional characters to simulate workplace scenarios to teach four essential skills that the workforce of the future need to survive and thrive in an era of technological disruptions. The four crucial skills are Emotional Intelligence, Critical Thinking, Contextual Creativity, Mindfulness. These skills are particularly hard to teach, which is why we have designed a unique way of teaching them through entertainment and gamification to make them more accessible to a digitally savvy workforce.
